About THE SUPERFLY TRIBUTE SHOW
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, join us for the ultimate 70's style costume party show this Halloween season, as we pay tribute to some of the greatest Black Movie Soundtracks ever produced. The 70's gave birth to such classic films like SHAFT, The MACK, MOHAGANY, LADY SINGS THE BLUES, BLACK CEASAR, CAR WASH, and the cult classic, SUPERFLY. These throwback classics (also known as the Black Exploitation Film era) were accompanied and only proceeded by their musical scores & timeless theme songs; performed by amazing artist such as Diana Ross, James Brown, Willie Hutch, Isaac Hays, Bobby Womack, Rose Royce, and Curtis Mayfield to name a few.
Bay Area's platinum producer James Earley & the "ALL STAR" Superfly Band will take you on hip trip back to a time where the Vibe was Strong, Black Power was Right On, and Love was the Universal Song, while performing all the classic hitz of the 70's; Featuring vocalist Aaron Young, Nzuri Soul, Dyson the Soul Singer and DJ KStyles, with special guest performance by Bay Area Blues Legend Fillmore Slim.
Produced by Mark T. Elliott & Gangster Brown of The Bay Area Players Association, GB Records Hollywood & The A-List Musiq Circle. Sponsored by Mayo Productions "GMP"
Blaxploitation or blacksploitation is a film genre that emerged in the United States in the 1970s. It is considered an ethnic subgenre of the general category of exploitation films. Blaxploitation films were originally made specifically for an urban black audience, although the genre's audience appeal soon broadened across racial and ethnic lines. The term itself is a combination of the words "black" and "exploitation," and was coined in the early 1970s by the Los Angeles National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) head, and ex-film publicist Junius Griffin. Blaxploitation films were the first to regularly feature soundtracks of funk and soul music as well as primarily black casts.[1] Variety credited Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, released in 1971, with the invention of the blaxploitation as well as the less radical Hollywood-financed film Shaft, also released in 1971.
Fillmore Slim
Fillmore Slim Best known by his stage name, Fillmore Slim, is a blues vocalist and guitarist with five albums to his credit. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was also a highly renowned pimp in San Francisco, often referred to as "The West Coast Godfather of the Game" and "The Pope of Pimping". Coming up as a true SF player in the game, Curtis Mayfield and the Superfly sound track has been the most influential LP of my life. Curtis Mayfield lyrics was a like positive refection of a hustlers dream "trying to get over" at a time when "pimpin" to some was a negative thing, and to others a superfly hustle coming up in the ghetto. Before my chosen street profession as a pimp, I was an inspiring blues artist & musician playing in a band called Eddy N & the Blues Slayers. We were influenced by groups like The Impressions & others while developing our own sound working the night clubs of New Orleans. As fate would have it, my return to music has allowed me another chance at my first real passion performing the Blues with now 5 complete CDs to my credit. It's is a great honor to pay tribute to Curtis Mayfield, the man, the musical genius, who's has left us with such an inspiring musical legacy which still plays as the back-drop to my life's story. Not only as Fillmore Slim the legendary Pimp, but Fillmore Slim the Blues artist.
