"The Skin of Our Teeth": Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer-Winning Comedy

Playwright Thornton Wilder, a Pulitzer Prize winner for "Our Town", took home the same prestigious award for this allegorical satire that follows the Antrobus family of New Jersey, and their melodramatic maid Sabina, through just about all of human history. Brought to life by Hayward's Douglas Morrison Theatre, this perpetually befuddled yet indefatigable clan somehow manages to endure despite facing an absurd series of catastrophes, ranging from a suburban iceberg to massive coastal flooding and even an apocalyptic war. But "The Skin of Our Teeth" is also the story of the theater company putting on the play, adding yet another layer of meaning to the proceedings.
