About Oakland Eastside All-Star Ensemble

The Oakland Eastside All Star Ensemble is a big band and leadership development fellowship program comprised of middle and high school musician-scholars from public and charter schools in Oakland. Since its 2012 inception sponsored by 51Oakland, OEASE has shared their love for music, the universal language, playing a diverse and entertaining repertoire for corporate, fundraising, and concert events. In 2014, OEASE was an opening act for the Oakland Jazz Festival and earned Gold 2nd rating at the WorldStrides® Heritage Performance program. Last November, OEASE played the Paramount Theatre lobby for the Oakland East Bay Symphony Orchestra’s opening night performance, celebrating Maestro Michael Morgan’s 25th year anniversary.

“It’s a Family Affair” is a night showcasing the big band, led by veteran OUSD music educator and OEASE Artistic Director, Helena Moss-Jack. A special set features the small combo, with special guest appearances from family members, supporters and friends. Guest performers include Los Angeles-based crowd-pleaser, vocalist Phil Edwards and the San Francisco/Oakland-based Quake City Jug Band in a joyful all-ages celebration of the power of music to uplift and unite us all.
