About JACKIE RYAN

“Extraordinary is the word!”... “a world class talent” ” said jazz critic Don Heckman, from the Los Angeles Times in his review of one of Jackie Ryan?s concerts.
Jazz vocalist, Jackie Ryan, has been thrilling audiences across the globe with her powerful 3 1?2 octave range and her amazing stage presence. She has a style that is uniquely her own. Born of a Mexican mother who sang Operettas in the famous Teatro Degollado in Guadalajara, Mexico and an Irish/American father who sang classical tenor, she was, as one critic put it, “simply born to sing.”
Ms Ryan has had three back to back #1 CDs, each one staying in the position at the top of the charts for many weeks. Jackie has garnered unanimous positive reviews from the international jazz critics.
She has sung all over the world from 8 consecutive years at Ronnie Scott?s Club in London (where she was asked to record live on Ronnie Scott's Jazzhouse Label) to several appearances at New York?s Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Birdland, as well as jazz festivals from Monterey Jazz, The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival to Telluride.
Her style includes an amazing range from gospel and blues to Braziiian Bossa Novas. From Latin songs to Bebop Vocalese to the most heartfelt ballads.
She also sings in several languages.
“Everything she sings comes off beautifully, with amazing control. If she sings loud and brassy, she nails it; if she goes soft and silky, she owns it.” (Baker and Taylor?s CD Hotlist review)
She has recorded and/or performed with the top names in the business, including Jon Hendricks, Clark Terry, Toots Thielemans, Barry Harris, The Jeff Hamilton Trio, Amina Figarova, Cyrus Chestnut, Terry Gibbs, Eric Alexander, Buddy DeFranco, Red Holloway, Romero Lubambo, and her most recent recording ?Listen Here? (also #1 jazz CD on Jazzweek?s nationwide jazz radio chart) was produced by John Clayton (Co-founder of the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra) and featured Gerald Clayton on piano.
According to jazz critic Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times Magazine, Jackie is "one of the outstanding jazz vocalists of her generation and, quite possibly, of all time, rivaling the dexterous
sass of Sarah Vaughan, the instinctive smarts of Carmen McRae, and the scintillating verve of Diana Kral."
For Jackie Ryan's concert at Yoshi's she will present:
"Duke Ellington's Sound Of Love"
Jackie describes it as a tribute to The Duke and the many talented songwriters and musicians who worked with him over his life. Jackie says," Mr Ellington enjoyed a career that spanned 60 years. Never one to rest with a successful formula that was comfortable for too long; Duke was always pushing the boundaries and expanding his style. Always challenging his group and himself to expand musical boundaries. Because of this openness and desire to be constantly fresh and new, Duke was one of the greatest band leaders of all time. Along with the popular hits that we all recognize from Duke Ellington, Jackie will be introducing many gems that are seldom, if ever heard, co-written with singers and musicians that Duke kept with him for many years. People who love the music of Duke Ellington will find lots of surprises in this show!"
Playing with Jackie will be John R Burr piano, Akira Tana on drums, Dan Feiszli on bass and Charles McNeal on Sax.
