About "Faust"

"Faust": Gounod's Grand Opera in Four Acts

With an emphasis on accessibility, Verismo Opera presents this passionate production of one of the most beautifully written operas of all time. "Faust" tells the story of a forlorn philosopher who regains his youth by making a dubious deal with the devil. But dealing with the devil is risky business and Faust pays a diabolically high price for his immortal soul. Gounod's opera in four acts adapts Goethe's story of the downfall of Faust, and that of the fair Marguerite, who becomes an innocent pawn in Mephistopheles' plan. Known for its famed "Jewel Song," the opera's been captivating audiences worldwide since its Paris premiere in 1859. It's performed here in French with projected English translation in the intimate Bay Terrace Theater.
