About Donal Fox Inventions Trio: "Scarlatti Jazz Suite Project"

Donal Fox Inventions Trio's "Scarlatti Jazz Suite Project": Classical Jazz Mashup

Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane meet Bach and Scarlatti as genre-blending composer Donal Fox and his Inventions Trio perform the "Scarlatti Jazz Suite Project". With an improviser's verve, Fox mashes up everything from Baroque repertoire and stride piano to the New Viennese School and bebop. He takes the themes of old masters and adds modern grooves and virtuosic improvisation for a whole new musical language. A Guggenheim Fellow and recent recipient of the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Letters Academy Award in Music, Fox has collaborated across the jazz and classical worlds, from jazz artists like David Murray, John Stubblefield and Oliver Lake to the Richmond Symphony, American Composers Orchestra and the St. Louis Symphony. Now, he comes to Cal Performances' Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley.
