Classical, Tango & More: Diablo Ballet Toasts Its 21st Anniversary

Contra Costa County's own Diablo Ballet celebrates its 21st anniversary with an eclectic performance at Walnut Creek's Lesher Center for the Arts. The classical and contemporary dance company was created in an effort to bring professional ballet to a region that was previously in need. Now, Diablo Ballet will revel in more than two decades' worth of performances and enrichment with a showcase that features the classic masterpiece solo and pas de deux from George Balanchine's "Apollo", as well as the dramatic "Hamlet and Ophelia" by Val Caniparoli. The evening continues with David Fonnegra's "Resistance" and Robert Dekkers' "See Saw", both performed to the live music of romantic composer Felix Mendelssohn, and "Incitations", an exciting tango tribute by alumni choreographer-dancer Kelly Teo.
