About "Charlotte Perkins Gilman's The Yellow Wallpaper"
Gothic Classic "The Yellow Wallpaper": A Descent Into Madness
You'll never look at wallpaper the same way again after you see this stage adaptation of the classic feminist gothic story "The Yellow Wallpaper". First published in 1892, a time when men had complete control over women's mental and physical health, this nightmarish story centers on Jane, a Victorian-era woman confined to an attic room as part of a "rest cure" for her postpartum depression. With nothing to stimulate her mind, Jane soon begins to detect strange movements in the patterns of the old wallpaper. Is she descending into madness, or is there really something sinister lurking in the attic? Central Works brings this unsettling and timely story to the stage of the Berkeley City Club.Comments
