About Chanticleer: "Spanish Gold"

Chanticleer: Grammy-Winning Voice Orchestra Performs "Spanish Gold"

Even as the current a cappella craze inspires more and more vocal groups to form, there has never been the slightest confusion over which ensemble reigns supreme: Chanticleer. "The New Yorker" stated the obvious when it declared the native San Francisco ensemble "the world's reigning male chorus." Now the 12-member group returns to its early music roots in "Spanish Gold". As gold from the New World flooded 16th-century Spain, a corresponding avalanche of musical riches filled the country's cathedrals and palaces. Now this exciting new concert explores the period's wealth of original voices, from the sublime religious mysticism of Tomás Luis de Victoria and Cristóbal de Morales to the nobility of Francisco Guerrero and the earthy folksongs of Mateo Flecha. Be transported by this evening of sensuous and magnificent music at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
