About "Birds of Paradise: Exotic Music of the Old & New Worlds"

Marin Baroque's "Birds of Paradise: Exotic Music of the Old & New Worlds"

Marin Baroque delves into the musical heritage of Latin America with "Birds of Paradise: Exotic Music of the Old & New Worlds". This concert, held at Berkeley's La Peña Cultural Center, features rhythmically exuberant music that blends Spanish, Portuguese, African and indigenous American influences into a vibrant musical cocktail. "Birds of Paradise" includes the music of the Latin American missions, a poetic piece from 16th century Spain and even regional bird songs. To make the past come to life, the chamber choir and period instrument orchestra will call upon 16 voices, percussion, the Spanish "vihuela" and medieval instruments such as the shawm and the cornett. Marin Baroque will be joined by renowned Renaissance and early Baroque ensemble The Whole Noyse, celebrating its 30th year as one of the country's leading early brass ensembles.
